Ohenro on The Economist 1843 magazine

There is nothing new about the fact that Japan has become a major tourist destination for travelers world-wide, specially in the past few years. However, it is time for travelers to get to know “the other Japan”, the rural one, the one that goes beyond the topics. Summarizing, it is just about time to discover “real Japan”.

Photo story about Ohenro route

This was our main goal when we decided to do a one-year-photo-project documenting the whole country. We drove 42.000km in 365 days just to find the “real Japan”, unknown to most foreigners. During 2010 we shot many small stories, and this past february one of them was just published in The Economist magazine, the 1843. They dedicated a whole supplement to Japan as a destination.

Ohenro, religious route

Our pictures from the Ohenro pilgrimage route where included in the magazine with a double page spread and some other smaller pictures. It is a pleasure for us to be able to show new destinations in Japan, out of the beaten tracks. The Ohenro route throughout Shikoku is certainly an amazing small trip to discover beautiful untouched landscapes as well as to deep yourself in the Japanese Buddhism culture.
